The Name: "Fanggu"
The "Fanggu" is one of the most iconic and enduring shapes in Yixing history. The name implies "following the ancient ways," but the shape is directly inspired by a traditional Chinese drum. In Chinese aesthetics, the drum represents high spirits, rhythm, and unity. The round, full belly of the teapot symbolizes "Qi" (vital energy) and fullness, making it a vessel that represents prosperity and a well-rounded life.
Design & Craftsmanship
This 200ml teapot captures the essence of the classic drum shape with a taut, full body and a wide, flat lid that fits seamlessly. The wide opening makes it exceptionally practical for loading large tea leaves and cleaning. The body features delicate handcrafted engravings (calligraphy and landscape), adding a layer of literary elegance to the sturdy form.
It is crafted from Original Ore Di Cao Qing, a premium variety of Purple Mud (Zini) historically favored by Grandmasters like Gu Jingzhou. This clay is known for its "tender" texture and reddish-purple hue. Over time, Di Cao Qing is famous for developing a rich, glossy patina (oiliness) faster than most other clays when nurtured with tea.
Recommendation
Due to the wide opening and the heat retention of the Di Cao Qing clay, this pot is an excellent all-rounder. It is particularly recommended for Pu-erh (Raw and Ripe), Black Tea, and Roasted Oolong.
