Product Story & Description

The Name: "Sheng Fang"

The name "Sheng Fang" is derived from the ancient Chinese grain measuring vessel, the Sheng. In form, it represents stability and abundance. Culturally, the word "Sheng" (升) means "to rise" or "ascend." Therefore, this teapot carries the auspicious meaning of Bu Bu Gao Sheng—"Rising step by step," symbolizing continuous promotion, growth in one's career, and an increase in prosperity.

Design & Cultural Meaning

This 190ml teapot is a classic example of "Fang Huo" (Square Ware), which is significantly more difficult to craft by hand than round teapots due to the need for precise angles and structural balance. The shape is trapezoidal—stable at the base and elegant at the top—exhibiting a masculine, architectural beauty.

The body features a stunning "Literati" style engraving. One side depicts a serene landscape painting. The other side bears the poetic couplet: "Clear breeze and bright moon are my companions; High mountains and flowing water are my soulmates." This references the famous Chinese legend of Gao Shan Liu Shui, symbolizing the rare and precious bond between true friends who understand each other deeply.

Recommendation

Made from authentic Zini (Purple Clay), this pot has excellent breathability and is versatile for brewing various teas. It is particularly well-suited for Pu-erh (Raw and Ripe), Black Tea, and Roasted Oolongs (like Da Hong Pao). As you use it, the clay will develop a warm, lustrous patina. It is a perfect gift for a close friend or a business partner to wish them success.

Solid everyday brewer. The geometric lines on this square pot are sharp and show real skill—square pots are notoriously hard to get right without warping in the kiln. The walls are medium thickness, holding heat well for my dark teas. My only tiny critique is that the handle is a bit snug for larger fingers, but the balance is so good it doesn't matter much. It came with the artist's certificate, which was a nice touch. Excellent value.
