Product Story & Description
The Name: "Duo Zhi"
The Duozhi teapot is a unique style among Zisha (Yixing clay) teapots, created by the master teapot maker Shao Daheng during the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty. The character "Duo" (掇) in its name implies connecting and stacking, as its design resembles multiple spherical and hemispherical components stacked together. Another theory suggests it was named after the "Duozi," a local Yixing container used for holding items, which its shape imitates.
The Yixing County Gazetteer once described Shao Daheng's Duozhi teapot with the phrase: "A single teapot is worth a thousand pieces of gold, and is almost impossible to obtain". Evolved from the Lianzi (Lotus Seed) teapot, this style is a classic design among round Zisha wares. It has had a notable influence on later generations of teapot makers, with renowned masters like Gu Jingzhou having appraised the design and meticulously crafted their own replicas of it.
Design & Craftsmanship
This elegant 200ml teapot serves as a masterful example of classic, minimalist beauty. Crafted entirely by hand from highly sought-after Xiaomeiyao Zhuni (a premium vermilion clay), it boasts a stunning, warm reddish hue that will develop a deep, glossy patina with regular use. The full-bellied body transitions gracefully into a domed lid, topped with a delicate spherical knob. The curved spout and perfectly proportioned ear-shaped handle ensure excellent balance and a smooth, precise pour. Because of its generous, rounded interior, the tea leaves have ample space to expand, making it highly recommended for brewing Oolong, black, or Pu'er teas.
