Product Story & Description
The Name & Cultural Meaning:
The name "Shui Ping" (水平) translates to "Horizontal Balance." Historically, this classic teapot style was designed for the traditional Gongfu tea ceremony in Southern China. Brewers would place the teapot in a large bowl of hot water to maintain the temperature of the tea. A perfectly crafted Shui Ping teapot is balanced so precisely that it floats completely upright in the water without tipping over. Culturally, it symbolizes harmony, inner balance, and steadfastness in life.
Design & Craftsmanship:
This 160ml teapot represents the pinnacle of minimalist geometric beauty. The defining feature of a true Shui Ping teapot is the "Three Mountains Rule"—the tip of the spout, the top of the handle, and the rim of the teapot all align on a perfect horizontal plane. Crafted from premium Xiao Mei Yao Zhuni, a highly sought-after and rare red clay, it features a beautifully smooth, naturally lustrous, and warm reddish-orange surface. This specific clay has a notoriously high shrinkage rate during firing, making fully handmade flawless pieces like this a true test of a master's skill.
Recommended For:
This teapot is highly recommended for traditional Gongfu tea practitioners, lovers of classic minimalist aesthetics, and serious collectors. Because Zhuni clay is excellent at retaining heat and highly aromatic profiles, it is the perfect vessel for brewing highly fragrant teas such as Oolong, Tieguanyin, or Dancong.
